Every day is a good day to work at Robot Entertainment, but today was particularly special. A few weeks ago, we were contacted by Make-A-Wish North Texas about a young boy named Wade Sharp. Wade has Osteogenesis Imperfecta, more commonly known as brittle bone disease. What this means is that even the slightest injury can easily break Wade’s bones. Because of this, he doesn’t get to participate in many physical activities. Instead, Wade turns to videogames to live out vicarious adventures.
Wade’s wish was to see how games were made and to become a character in a videogame. When we heard about this here at Robot, we jumped at the chance to help make Wade’s wish come true. So, after a few weeks of planning, we had Wade and his family into the office today where he got to be a game developer for a day. Wade was given the studio tour, had lunch with developers, and then got to learn about the process of developing characters for videogames. We even surprised him by creating a model of him in-game as his dream videogame character – Wade the Super-Master! Wade helped us put the finishing touches on his Super-Master character, selecting colors and weapon sounds, even helping us develop a back story!
We’re happy to say that thanks to Wade’s help today, Wade The Super-Master will be a playable character in an upcoming, as-yet unannounced videogame from Robot Entertainment!
After Wade helped us with developing his character, we gave him a big pile of awesome swag to take home with him. The gift package included a ton of Robot shirts and games, a giant framed print of his in-game character, and even a small statue of his character from our friends at Shapeways!
After we’ve revealed more of the game that Wade will be featured in we’ll be posting additional pictures from today. In the mean time, enjoy these few glimpses into Wade’s Developer for a Day Wish!
Wade’s a cool kid who really likes games. If you want to follow his progress and talk games with him, he has his own Facebook page here.
